Maui County Council’s Planning and Sustainable Land Use Committee last month, gave a go ahead, to South Maui's 28-unit workforce housing development on approximately 7 acres for the full council to consider. The plan most likely will be on the next council meeting agenda afterg the primary election, said committee Chairwoman Tamara Paltin on Tuesday afternoon.
Conditions include lessening the traffic burden with a second entrance and exit to and from the project by expanding Wela Street to Kilohana Drive; restricting accessory dwelling units; and requiring each unit is owner-occupied for a period of 20 years from the unit’s purchase date.
Prices for the workforce housing will range from $400,000 for one and two story 2 bed/ 2 bath homes or to $640,000 for 4 bed/ 2.5 bath homes.
